The Kambia Appeal, formerly The Kambia
Hospital Appeal, is a
UK-registered charity, based in Cheltenham, that has supported
the medical district of Kambia in Sierra Leone since 1992. Over
the years, we have helped to supply medicines, equipment and
training for medical personnel.
As a charity, we rely on donations and
fundraising from individuals and groups across the country, as
well as grants from Trusts and Foundations in the UK and abroad.
|
| We aim to improve access to
quality healthcare in Kambia, with a special focus on the health
of women and children in the district. By improving reproductive
health, our work is designed to lower the number of women dying
during pregnancy and childbirth in
Kambia.
The Kambia Appeal's
Cheltenham Scholarships
To combat the chronic shortage of qualified health workers in Kambia, the Kambia Appeal is funding a number of local Kambian students to train for medical qualifications within Sierra Leone.

Motorbike Ambulances For Kambia
 |
We are currently setting up a motorbike ambulance project to provide low-cost transportation for pregnant women to access health care at their local clinics.
To promote the use of the ambulances an education film was made in Kambia in
December 2007 by volunteers from the UK to be screened in villages across the district.
