3) Who have been
the main funders over the past 3 years?
Over the last 3 years we have been very limited in our fund
raising as we did not know if and when the hospital would be
rebuilt, or if we would be involved.
We received £1,000 from the Oldham Trust for years 1999/2000 and
2000/2001. Covenants/Gift Aid provided an excess
of £3,000 pounds during this time, and interest was
approximately £3,000 each year.
Own Events raised £1,483 in 2000/2001, £1,202 in 2001/2002
and £3,968 in 2002/2003.
In 2000/2001 we received
£ 200 from talks
£ 200 from outside events
£1,500 from own events
£3,800 from covenants
£3,500 from interest
In 2001/2002 we received
£ 900 from outside events
£1,200 from own events
£4,000 from covenants
£2,900 from interest
In 2002/2003 we received
£ 5,000 from outside events
£ 4,000 from own events
£17,300 from covenants
£ 2,000 from interest
£ 3,400 from grant for water supply
4) What funds have been raised over the
last 3-5 years?
In 1997/1998 we received
£11,250 from Comic Relief
£ 1,000 from Oldham Trust
£ 3,000 from covenants
£ 1,800 from interest
£ 3,400 from own events
In 1998/1999 we received
£22,500 from Comic Relief
£ 2,000 from RCOG
£ 9,000 from Allied Dunbar for motor bicycles
£ 4,500 from covenants
£ 2,200 from interest
£ 3,800 from own events
In 1999/2000 we received
£ 850 from talks
£3,100 from own events
£6,500 from covenants/donations
£2,800 from interest
5) Do you run a programme of fund raising
events eg raffles, concerts, sponsored events, sales?
Yes. We have held many events in
schools, churches and social groups, eg concerts,
dinner with celebrity guest
speaker Tom Graveney, auction, coffee mornings (some coffee
mornings have raised over £1,500), raffles, school non-uniform
days and sales of work. People have run
for us in the London
Marathon. In addition,
static media in the form of collection boxes are sited appropriately,
eg doctors' surgeries, hospital wards.

10) Do you operate internationally?
Yes. In March 2003 the Appeal received a grant of 5,000
euros from the European Third World Association which
contributed to an educational film.
11) In which towns/countries
does the charity work? What County Council is the Charity located
in?
The Appeal is based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, but operates
internationally. People from Canada and South Africa have visited
Kambia through the charity.
12) Has the charity received or applied
for grants in the past? If so, what grants were issued and when
were they finalised?
The Appeal has received a number of grants from:
Comic Relief (2 grants, finalised in
1998)
Allied Dunbar (1999)
Oldham Trust (regularly, latest one was in
2001)
William Cadbury (2002)
European Third World Association (2003)
13)
How would you spend a grant?
If the grant is for a specific project, then it will be
used specifically for that work. Otherwise, unrestricted funds
will be used for projects currently being undertaken.
14) Apart from a possible grant from us,
where will the balance of the funding come from?
The balance will come from international organisations and other grant making trusts
and other fundraising activities.
15) What reassurance can you give us so
that our money will arrive and be used appropriately?
