Maternal
Health Project Summary
The objective of our maternal health project is
to support the District Health Management Team (DHMT)
in Kambia to establish a comprehensive system of
maternal healthcare by improving access, quality
and capacity. The long-term goal is to reduce
maternal mortality and morbidity and thereby
reduce family poverty. The project is in
accordance with recommendations by the World
Health Organisation and the Safe Motherhood
Initiative.
Maternal
Health Education Project
The focus of this project is a film about
maternal health. Whilst there is a new hospital
and 30 peripheral health units in Kambia, women
continue to die or become ill in pregnancy and
childbirth because they do not seek medical
advice. The film explores the main social
and cultural reasons why mothers-to-be do not
seek medical advice when faced with particular
reproductive health problems.
See below for how to obtain a copy of the film.
