Crash course in tropical medicine (2020)
CLINICAL PRACTICE COURSE FOR WORKING IN LOW AND MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES (LMIC) (2 days)
Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th March 2020
Sandford Education Centre, Cheltenham General Hospital, Keynsham Road, Cheltenham, Glos GL53 7PX
This intensive course is for doctors, nurses, midwives and medical professionals who are considering work overseas in a LMIC
We aim to cover the following topics (subject to speaker availability):
- Personal Preparation
- Trauma/immediate care/Fracture management
- Hands-on workshops: Airway; cut-down/central venous/intra-osseous access suturing and knot tying; chest drain insertion; plastering
- Reproductive health and illness
- Obstetrics and emergencies: normal birth, Caesarean section, forceps and Ventouse delivery, breach and abnormal lies, PPH and maternal collapse, eclampsia
- Basic dentistry
- Paediatric and newborn resuscitation
- Basic anaesthesia, blocks and sedation
Included: Lunch on both days and a meal at a local restaurant on Wednesday 25th March at 19:30 hrs
Delegate fee: £325 (£50 deposit required, balance payable eight weeks prior to course)
