Israel (25) is a local comedian. He leads a drama group that provides community education on topics such as contraception and HIV. His group often performs plays and skits in the Kambia market place to encourage volunteer HIV testing and distribution of condoms. Israel also trains a cultural group of 10 students from Kolenten Secondary School, who meet once a week to rehearse and perform traditional dances, drumming and songs.
Israel is perhaps better known to The Kambia Appeal as Mr Advice. He has the star role in two of our own health education films – Belleh Woman: Go Di Right Side (our locally produced film to encourage women to seek professional medical care during pregnancy and labour) and Call di Life Saver!, which publicises our motorbike ambulance project to target communities.
