Check Point, or Kambia 2 as it’s also called, is the new settlement that is springing up around the junction of the Pan African Highway that turns off to old Kambia Town. Along the road to the north is the border with Guinea and to the south is Freetown. It is a busy area for trading. The main Kambia food market is here and, a bit further down the road, the Union Trust Bank and the only hotel in Kambia, The African Village. The junction is lined with shops and stalls selling all manner of items, from new motorbikes to remedies for snakebites.
