Scholarship Programme

Sierra Leone has a chronic shortage of qualified health care workers working within the health services.  To address this, The Kambia Appeal have been running a scholarship programme to enable health sector staff from Kambia District to have the opportunity to train for higher qualifications within Sierra Leone.  We also sponsor students who wish to enter the healthcare profession but who are unable to take up the courses on which they have been offered places because of lack of finance. In exchange for bursaries covering tuition fees, accommodation and living allowances, all our scholars agree to work for the health services in Kambia for a minimum of three years once qualified.

Since the scheme started in 2006 your donations have funded the training of 9 CHOs, 2 CHOs in Surgery, 1 Laboratory Technician, 5 Midwives, 10 SECHNs, 1 SRNs, 1 MCHA, 1 CHA 1BSc (Public Health)

Our current scholarship programme is focused on the training of maternal and neonatal healthcare workers.  State Registered Nurses, Midwives, Community Health Assistants  (CHAs) and Community Health Officers (CHOs), once trained, will care for women throughout all of their pregnancy and childbirth journey.  They are also responsible for looking after newly born babies and infants.

We are proud to introduce some of the students who are currently being sponsored by your donations.

They are all incredibly grateful for your sponsorship……
