Gloucestershire Link

feature-1-1

The Kambia Appeal works in partnership with The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide maternal and child health training to Kambia health staff.

The Kambia Appeal has always been linked closely with Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Many current and former members of staff have had the opportunity to visit Kambia and provide training to their counterparts in Kambia as well as working alongside them to learn about health care in a developing country.

The Gloucestershire Link has been recognised and supported by The Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) and has provided a framework for facilitating training for hospital staff in Kambia by hospital staff from Gloucestershire in vital areas, such as neonatal resuscitation and operating theatre procedures.

Ex-Trust Chief Executive Frank Harsent said of the link –

“When we see the huge gap between healthcare facilities and staff in Gloucestershire and those in Kambia it makes you realise how privileged we are.  I can see how a relatively small contribution from GHNHST can make an enormous difference to the abilities of the Kambia staff to save the lives of women and children and am proud for the Trust to be associated with it.”

We are NOT currently running short-term volunteer projects, but please read more about our previous GHNHSFT programmes in Kambia here:
